Restocking

Being edited by Dark (darknessx22)

So you want to learn the finer points of restocking the main shops as well as the wiz?
Well, you have a little longer to wait, because this page isn’t finished, awww!

Preperations

Before you run off crazily into the shops, you need to be ready to start restocking. The first thing that you need is a good browser to restock with. A browser that you should be looking for has a zoom function and is fast. Ones that are reccomended are the Avant Browser and the standard Internet Explorer.

Once you have found a browser that you are confortable using, it is almost time to start restocking. Make sure that you have a good chunk of money on hand, around 50k, and go into a shop. You have probally found that there are no items in the shop. That is because the shopkeeper needs to get restocked. The shopkeepers restock at entirely random times now. It seems that when one shop restocks, there is another few that restock with it.

Shop Wiz

Wiz shopping tips, book snags, etc. here

Running a shop is by far the easiest way to make neopoints. You don’t need a fast connection, you don’t need lightning fast reflexes, and you don’t need much to get started. What you do need is to start slow, study the market, and build upon what works for you.

Everybody’s shop is different. Realize that and live with it. You cannot copy someone else’s shop and be successful. Over time your shop will evolve and develop a theme; your interests and skills will define its look and profitability.

Rich or poor, starting out is the same. You probably have a several items in your SDB that you have no use for. Pull these out and put them in your shop. If you don’t, go to the Shop Wiz and buy several ‘Can of Neocola’. Buy anything in those shops that is priced under 5np. If your shop can’t hold it all, either increase the size of your shop (not more than 10 for now) or put the excess items back in your SDB.

Now open two browser windows; in one have your Stock, and in the other the Shop Wiz. Use Ctrl+C to copy item names from your shop inventory and use Ctrol+V to paste it into the Shop Wiz (you may need to select ‘identical to my phrase’ to search just your item). Refresh the Shop Wiz a few times to see the variety of prices. Take the average lowest price and price your item 1np below that. Do this with each item until you have priced your entire shop.

*note: the shop wiz is organized according to letter groupings -later on I will add a chart that shows exactly how this is organized and how to use it to your advantage

Now that you have your shop priced, make a note of all items under 1,001np. Later on in the day check your Sales History and Till to see what has sold. Items priced at 1,000np and under are not recorded in your Sales History, this is why I said to make a note of those. Replace anything that has sold and price it the same. After doing this 3-5 times you will start to see which items are selling fast. Start pricing those items a little higher. Don’t expect items to sell rapidly, most take 12 to 24 hours to sell if you have priced them fairly.

Make a list of items that are easy to buy, make a decent profit, and sell in less than a day. You will start finding that these are often items that you or your friends use often. People buy what they need more often than what they like. Some odd items that you think are useless may be often needed items for quests of various kinds. Items like the different kinds of cola are something kids like to feed to their pets every day. Cheap items like the different colors of sand are mostly bought by people who collect hundreds of one cheap item for the fun of it. People who battle buy codestones and scratchcards to train with every day.

While you are pricing your items, glance at what other players have in their shops. Quite often you can discover new items to try selling in your shop. On the rare occasion you can find a very expensive item extremely underpriced. Once you get familiar with general prices it will be easier to spot such bargains. However, don’t assume some item you have never seen before must be rare and buy it, always doublecheck on a price so you won’t regret an impulse purchase of something that turns out to be overpriced.

As your profits increase you can begin stocking more expensive items. Just remember that just because an item is expensive doesn’t mean it’s desirable or useful. You’re much more likely to make huge profits on items priced less than 5k than you are on items priced above 25k. Why? Well, most players are not rich and will not spend thousands of np on just one item. However, they will likely buy several items priced under 5k

Buying Books

Undecided where this info will go, but since I am working on RS and Shop Wiz info it will stay here for now (in a very rough form at that).

There are four places to buy books: main shops, player shops, trades and auctions.

If you have a super fast internet connection and great reflexes, you will be able to get some good deals in the main shops. Most people buy their books from player shops on the Shop Wiz, though. Trades and auctions are where you need to go to get UB (unbuyable) books. Our database has a price list that is relatively accurate, but prices can fluctuate hourly sometimes. Wild fluctuations can be caused by: A. An item being retired, B. A change in Neopets Newbie Pack, C. Hoarders and price fixers, and D. Speculation or actuality that an item is to be used for an avatar. There are some other instances that cause prices to change, but those are the main ones.
