What is the name of the guild account?
SpankysBookWorld is our only guild account. If someone asks you to send donations to another account STOP! and let us know about it so we can report them for trying to scam our members. Everything we do is handled through the one account, SpankysBookWorld.
Why is it that sometimes the guild account doesn’t have book deals or hasn’t accepted my donation?
We used to have a different guild account for each guild activity but Neopets contacted our guild leader and requested that we delete all but one account and only allow one person access to that account or be frozen. Everything we do is now run out of this one account that only one person has access to. Therefore, please understand that occasionally deals/donations will be slow if that person has other things in life to attend to.
Where do I go to buy cheap books, and do you have a list of them?
The main focus of our guild is to help members find cheaper books. We have multiple ways we do this:
- Price list in our Database
- Book Deals
- A list of most books under 5,000 np here
- Snag Alerts
- Periodic giveaways or deep discounts by our members (announcements posted on the guild board and website)
Why are you required to be at least a Super Muppet for all book deals?
This is in place solely to protect our members. There are scammers that join guilds just to take advantage of their benefits and then leave the guild hours later having made a profit and contributed nothing to the guild. In order to put a stop to people doing this we had to put in place a system that let us make sure all guild donations go to guild members. We make it very easy to get a rank upgrade, and you can use the brief waiting period to familiarize yourself with our site and how we expect our guildmembers to conduct themselves.
Occasionally the guild or members will offer some free books in trades for any rank (including new Muppets) and will only ask that you use a specific (and cheap) item to signify that you are a guild member so they don’t have to go to every bidder’s lookup to check and see if they belong to Spankys.
What is there to do here?
Keep browsing this site! There is a ton to do. We have great deals on books, a very active chat room, guild website forum, and more. It is impossible to get bored in this guild
How do I get promoted in this guild?
Well, simply visit the guild ranks page and find out!
How do I donate to the guild?
You can do a few things…
- Send items to the user ’spankysbookworld’. You can do this by clicking on the item, then choosing “Give to Neofriend.” Just type in the guild acct and send away.
We do not accept neofriends on that account. And please refrain from sending junk -.o
- Put items in a trading lot and neomail spankysbookworld with the link to your lot.
- Buy a Meerca Item from spankysbookworld shop.
Where do my donations go?
All donations go into the guild bank account and safety deposit box. Books are used for our book deals, and the NP is used to purchase more expensive books that people usually do not donate. Rest assured that your council takes great pride in protecting the funds and making sure everything we do benefits our members. We always make sure to save NP for a rainy day and stocking up on books that have retired.
Does the council get paid?
The council and subcouncil are not paid in money or neopints for any of the work they do. We all do what we do because we love our guild and enjoy helping people.
Do you have a “Newbie Pack”?
No, we reserve our funds for people who are active participants in the guild. We are not concerned with the number of members, we are concerned with the quality of our members. What we do offer is access to our great book deals and a few other things once you have passed the promotion quiz. However, newbies have free access to our guild board, website, and forum. Yes, newbie packs are a nice idea, but having them makes it easy for guild-hoppers to drain our guild funds without giving anything back to this guild.
Can I have free stuff?
NO! GO AWAY! *launches attack meepits*
Can I be on council/subcouncil?
Council/subcouncil positions are usually by invitation only. Should one of our staff leave their position, we will make an announcement and (if we don’t already have someone in mind) accept applications. All our staff is expected to spend a certain amount of time on their duties each week and not let the guild down. If you’re just looking for a prestigious title please find another guild.
I bid on a book deal, but it was rejected. Why?
If you asked for a book and did not get it, it could be because of one of the following reasons:
- Somebody bid on it before you.
- You are not a part of the guild.
- You are not a Super Muppet or above.
- You bid the wrong price.
Why was my message deleted from the message board?
There are a few reasons why our staff deletes posts:
- You were trying to scam.
- Your message was hateful.
- You repeated an answer already given.
- Your question is quoted and answered in a later post.
- Your question is easily answered by reading our website.
- Your question is easily answered by reading previous posts.
- Old Snowager, Turmaculus, etc. alerts are deleted after the time has passed to avoid confusion later.
- You were chit-chatting, please use our forum,or chatroom instead.
- You posted more than five times for the day, or too many messages in a row.
- Your font is too difficult to read.
- You complained about a previous post being deleted.
- Your post is an older post. (Usually applied to introductory posts.)
- You were advertising a non-snag item/your shop/trades - these also go on forum.
If you did none of these things, then it was a simple mistake. Our guild staff is a mix of adults and children; we are all human and have work/school to deal with–sometimes we delete the wrong post by mistake.
The reason we delete a lot of messages is to keep our board readable so that snag alerts and other announcements are not lost, as Neopets guild boards have very limited space and no way to organize posts. We’re usually very lax on the weekends since there isn’t any book news, so this is a time when you may chat more freely
So what exactly ARE we allowed to post on the Guild Board?
Neopets gives us a small board without organizational features, so we ask that you keep your posts guild and book related and try not to let important book news/alerts get buried under a mountain of posts that would’ve been better suited to the Neoboards or our own forum.
What should we not post on the Guild Board?
This is not a full list, please use your common sense when posting. Things that don’t fly well on the board are: bragging, spamming, personal info, chit-chat, chatspeak, topics the NeoBoards cover, anything not applicable to the guild.
Why was my name excluded from the “Thank you for your donations” post?
Because we are out to get you! Run! (just kidding!) Most likely it was just a simple mistake. Either that or you donated AFTER we made the daily list.
Why do you delete inactive members? Don’t you want a huge membership?
Spankys is not about volume. At one time we had over 2200 members. We deleted over 1700 of them. It is quality, not quantity that matters here. We would rather be a close, friendly guild than a large and disconnected guild. Even though we do have a large member-base, we are a tight-knit community and work hard to get to know each other.
What is a “Snag Alert”?
The term Snag Alert was originally tagged by fruitmilktea2 and has rubbed off on everyone! When a member finds a really good deal on a book that they may not need, they call a Snag Alert to inform members of the guild where the book is and what the price is.
Why do you have so many rules, it’s not fun!
It’s no fun for the guild staff either! But, the fewer rules we have, the less order we have. If you only saw half of the chaos and spam and scams we have to deal with each day, you’d understand.
Are there any jobs I can help with?
If we need help in any area, we will post it in our news. If you can see something that needs doing, please feel free to offer your talents to the guild by contacting council.
Does this guild have contests?
Neopets does not allow contests, period. Many guilds run them, but they are running the risk of being frozen. We used to have contests but were asked to stop them by Neopets. Our guild is too valuable to our members to risk having it deleted forever. While contests were fun, only about 4 members out of our 2,000+ members (on average) would participate weekly, so this has not had a large impact on our guild.
How do I see book prices in the database?
After you register and log in, you have to add a pet. Then look at the right-hand side (with the different lists), go down to the very bottom and click “Change Active Pet”. This brings up the screen you want. Where your pet’s name is located (under Select Pet), you want to click on the word “no” to the right (under View aprox. price Click to toggle.) This will turn on the prices in the book lists. The box below that one is to make your lists publicly viewable (really nice if you are hoping someone will give you a book for a present), and the box below that one is to activate the price lists for the stamps.
