In the past, we have used Blogger to power our news portions of the website. Blogger is a great tool, but just did not offer all the features we wanted for the site. So, we have switched over to WordPress.

What is WordPress?
WordPress is a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. What a mouthful. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.

What are the new features?
Categories is the main new feature I love. Say you remember seeing a news post about a new avatar that was released, but it was 2 months ago. Before you would have to go through pages of archives to find that post. Now, you simply click on the Avatar category on the side. You now only have to go through the avatar news archives.

This also allows us to update books, member of the month, ect and have it go to it’s category page, but also appear on the news page. This means we only have to post once instead of twice like before.

The calendar you see allows you to browse archives by days drawn out on an easy to read calendar.

When we post news to the website, we can also have it posted to our Live Journal Community Blog. How freakin neat is that?!?! Go look for yourself. This post will be there too!!

We now have member levels. When you register for our WordPress blog, we can assign you different levels. The levels arrange from being able to comment, to updating prefrences.
Wordpress and their developers are constantly releasing plugins for the site that adds extra features!

What blows about this then?

Well, you do have to register again to comment on the site. But that takes like 2 seconds!

The council won’t have the cute little avatars by their names when they post.

Me and Fran have to go through all our html pages and change index.html to index.php. So if you get a broken link, just bear with us. We will have it all fixed soon!

What isn’t changing?
All the old news archives are already listed on the front page. We will be making a second page for old book archives.

The layout is staying the same. I have already altered all the css coding to make sure of this.

I am very excited about our change. WordPress is a very young program and is already the best out there. I cannot wait to see what they are in a year!!!
